African Pompano

Key differences: While also called 'pompano', the African Pompano belongs to a different genus (Alectis). Juveniles have extremely long, filamentous dorsal and anal fin rays that can be several times the length of the body. Adults lose these filaments and have a more angular, diamond-shaped body profile with a very steep forehead. They also have scutes on the lateral line near the tail, which Trachinotus species lack.
