• Compatibility: Best kept in a species-specific tank or with other cold-water, peaceful fish of similar size that can tolerate similar water parameters. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.
• Special requirements: Requires very clean, well-oxygenated, and cool water. A strong filtration system and regular water changes are essential. They are schooling fish, so a group of at least 6-8 individuals is recommended. Anadromous forms require access to both fresh and saltwater environments, which is impractical for most aquarists. Landlocked populations are more suitable but still challenging due to their specific environmental needs and sensitivity to water quality.
