Environment

Prefers rocky reefs, kelp forests, seagrass beds, and areas with abundant algal growth. They are often found in crevices, under ledges, and amongst boulders, providing shelter and hunting grounds. Juveniles may inhabit shallower, more sheltered areas.

Geographic range

Eastern Atlantic Ocean, from Norway and the British Isles south to Morocco, including the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands. Also found in the western Mediterranean Sea.
