Environment

Benthic, inhabiting sandy or muddy bottoms, seagrass beds, rocky crevices, and often found partially buried in the substrate. Prefers areas with cover for ambush predation and protection.

Geographic range

Eastern Atlantic Ocean, from the Bay of Biscay (France) southwards along the Iberian Peninsula, including the Mediterranean coast of Spain, Portugal, and extending to the coast of Morocco and the Canary Islands. Also present in the western Mediterranean Sea.
