Geographic range

Eastern North America, ranging from southern New Hampshire south along the Atlantic Coastal Plain to Florida, and west along the Gulf Coastal Plain to eastern Texas. Inland populations occur in the Mississippi River basin north to southern Illinois and Indiana.
