Ambiente

Prefers large, turbid, and slow-flowing or standing waters such as large rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and canals. It tolerates brackish water and can be found in estuaries and coastal lagoons. Favors areas with submerged vegetation, fallen trees, or other structures for cover, but also hunts in open water. Requires well-oxygenated water.

Distribuição geográfica

Native to Eastern and Central Europe and Western Asia, from the Elbe River basin eastward to the Aral Sea. Widely introduced throughout Western Europe (e.g., UK, France, Spain, Italy) and parts of Asia, often for aquaculture and sport fishing purposes.
