Ambiente

Primarily inhabit slow-moving to still waters of rivers, lakes, lagoons, and flooded forests. They prefer areas with abundant submerged vegetation, fallen trees (snags), rock formations, and undercut banks, which provide ambush points and cover. They are often found in clear to blackwater environments.

Distribuição geográfica

Native to the Amazon and Orinoco river basins in South America, including countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, and Guyana. Introduced populations exist in Florida (USA) and other tropical regions.
