Trachinotus carolinus

T. blochii generally has a deeper body and a blunter snout than T. carolinus. The fin coloration can also differ, with T. blochii often having more pronounced yellow fins. T. carolinus is found in the Western Atlantic, while T. blochii is Indo-Pacific.

Permit

Trachinotus falcatus

While sometimes used as an alternative name for T. blochii, the true Permit (T. falcatus) is a distinct species found in the Western Atlantic. T. falcatus typically grows larger, has a more elongated dorsal and anal fin lobe, and often exhibits a more silvery-white body with less yellow in the fins.
