Differenze chiave: Muskellunge have scales only on the upper half of both the cheek and operculum (Northern Pike have a fully scaled cheek). Muskellunge typically have dark spots or bars on a lighter background, while Northern Pike have light spots on a darker background. Muskellunge usually have 6-9 pores on each side of the underside of the lower jaw, compared to 5 (rarely 4 or 6) in Northern Pike.
