Environment

Geographic range

Circumtropical and subtropical. Species are found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. For example, Florida Pompano (T. carolinus) is prevalent along the Atlantic coast of the US and Gulf of Mexico, while Permit (T. falcatus) ranges from Massachusetts to Brazil, including the Caribbean. African Pompano (T. goreensis) is found in the eastern Atlantic.
