Native to Southern Africa, primarily found in the Zambezi, Okavango, Limpopo, and Incomati River systems. Its range extends through Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It has also been introduced to other regions.
