• Compatibility: Highly aggressive and territorial. Best kept as a solitary specimen. Can potentially be housed with very large, robust, and fast-moving fish that can withstand its aggression, but this is generally not recommended due to the high risk of injury or death to tankmates. Will attack and consume smaller fish and invertebrates.
• Special requirements: Requires a very large aquarium with excellent filtration due to its messy eating habits and large bioload. Substrate should be soft sand to protect its delicate belly. Provide ample hiding spots and visual barriers using rocks, driftwood, and robust live or artificial plants. Regular water changes are crucial. Teeth grow continuously and require hard-shelled foods (snails, crustaceans) to keep them trimmed, preventing overgrowth that can impede feeding. Extremely sensitive to nitrates and ammonia.
