Environment

Prefers sandy bottoms, rubble, and seagrass beds. It is a benthic species that often buries itself in the substrate, leaving only its eyes and mouth exposed, to ambush prey.

Geographic range

Western Atlantic Ocean, from North Carolina (USA) south to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean Sea.
