Keeping Pipefish in an aquarium requires the right conditions.

• Diet: carnivore
• Minimum tank size: 30 gallons (for smaller species), 50+ gallons (for larger species)
• Compatibility: Best kept in species-specific tanks or with very peaceful, slow-moving tank mates that will not outcompete them for food. Avoid aggressive or fast-feeding fish.
• Special requirements: Require a well-established, mature aquarium with plenty of live rock, macroalgae, or artificial structures for perching and hiding. Excellent water quality is paramount. They are specialized feeders, primarily consuming live copepods, amphipods, and other small invertebrates. Often difficult to transition to frozen foods.
