Environment

Prefers rocky reefs, coral rubble, sandy or muddy bottoms, and seagrass beds in estuaries, lagoons, and coastal bays. They often bury themselves partially in sand or hide amongst rocks and debris.

Geographic range

Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea and East Africa eastward to French Polynesia, and from southern Japan southward to Australia (Queensland, Northern Territory, Western Australia).
