Environment

Benthic, preferring soft substrates such as sand, mud, or gravel, often near rocky reefs or kelp forests. They are frequently found buried in the sediment with only their eyes and spiracles exposed.

Geographic range

Eastern Pacific Ocean, from southeastern Alaska (rarely) to Baja California, Mexico, and the Gulf of California. Most abundant off the coast of California.
