Environment

Prefers rocky bottoms, caves, shipwrecks, and areas with Posidonia oceanica seagrass beds. Often found in coastal waters, estuaries, and sometimes brackish lagoons. They are demersal, spending most of their time near the seabed.

Geographic range

Eastern Atlantic Ocean, from the English Channel south to Senegal, including the Canary Islands. Widely distributed throughout the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.
