Can tolerate some turbidity and degraded habitats.

Geographic range

Widespread across western North America, from southwestern Canada (British Columbia, Alberta) south through the western United States (including the Great Basin, Pacific Northwest, California, and parts of the Rocky Mountains) into northern Mexico. Its distribution is one of the broadest among North American minnows.
