Environment

Demersal, inhabiting continental shelves and upper slopes. Prefers rocky bottoms, reefs, and areas with mixed substrates, but can also be found over sandy or muddy bottoms. Often associated with caves and crevices.

Geographic range

Endemic to the waters around New Zealand, including the Chatham Rise and Campbell Plateau. Also found in southeastern Australia, particularly off Tasmania and Victoria.
