Environment

Inhabits a variety of coastal habitats including sandy and muddy bottoms, rocky reefs, seagrass beds, estuaries, and mangrove areas. Juveniles are often found in very shallow, sheltered estuarine environments, sometimes even entering freshwater sections of rivers.

Geographic range

Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea and East Africa to Papua New Guinea, north to southern Japan, and south to Australia. Also found in the Persian Gulf.
