Geographic range

The wild-type Poecilia reticulata is native to northeastern South America (Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana) and several Caribbean islands (Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda). Albino guppies are captive-bred and found globally in aquariums. Naturalized populations of P. reticulata exist worldwide due to introductions, but albino variants are rare in the wild due to increased predation risk.
