• Special requirements: Requires well-filtered water with good aeration. Benefits from the addition of aquarium salt (1-2 teaspoons per gallon) in freshwater setups, especially for P. velifera, to mimic their natural brackish habitats and prevent disease. A planted tank with open swimming areas is ideal. Males can be territorial towards each other, so a ratio of one male to two or more females is recommended to disperse aggression.
