Key differences: N. longior is very similar in appearance and was once considered a subspecies of N. leleupi. It generally has a more elongated body, a slightly more pointed snout, and often exhibits a more intense, almost fluorescent yellow coloration. The dorsal fin rays in N. longior tend to be longer and more filamentous, especially in males. Some populations of N. longior also show a more pronounced black margin on the dorsal and caudal fins.
