• Compatibility: Excellent with other small, peaceful community fish such as other characins, dwarf cichlids, corydoras, and small rasboras. Avoid housing with fin-nippers or overly boisterous species.
• Special requirements: Pencilfish thrive in well-planted aquariums with subdued lighting and plenty of hiding spots. A dark substrate and floating plants can enhance their coloration and reduce stress. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6-10 individuals to exhibit natural behaviors and reduce shyness. A tight-fitting lid is recommended as they can be jumpers.
