• Minimum tank size: 500 gallons (for smaller species, much larger for larger species)
• Compatibility: Generally compatible with larger, non-aggressive fish that occupy the upper water column. Avoid small fish or invertebrates that could be prey, and aggressive species that might nip at their fins.
• Special requirements: Requires a very large tank with a soft sand substrate to prevent injury to their delicate undersides and allow for natural burrowing behavior. Excellent filtration is crucial due to their messy feeding habits. Tank must be wide and long, not just tall, to accommodate their swimming style. Live or frozen meaty foods are essential.
