Widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Western Atlantic: from Nova Scotia, Canada, to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Eastern Atlantic: from Senegal to Angola, including the Cape Verde Islands. Also found in the Mediterranean Sea, likely through the Suez Canal (Lessepsian migration).
