Environment

Geographic range

Widespread throughout the central and eastern United States and parts of southern Canada. Its range extends from the Great Lakes basin south to the Gulf Coast states (e.g., Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana) and west to the Great Plains (e.g., Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska), and east to the Appalachian foothills. Absent from the Atlantic Slope drainages north of the Roanoke River.
