Typically found in moderate depths, from shallow banks to deeper drop-offs, often associated with structure.

Environment

Prefers clear, flowing waters of rivers and streams, but also inhabits reservoirs and lakes. They are often found around rocky areas, submerged timber, aquatic vegetation, and other cover. They tolerate slightly warmer and more turbid water than Smallmouth Bass, but prefer cooler and clearer water than Largemouth Bass.

Geographic range

Native to the central and southern United States, primarily in the Mississippi River basin, extending from the Ohio River valley south to the Gulf Coast states, and west into parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Introduced populations exist in other areas.
