Open ocean, pelagic, solitary or in small groups. Prefers temperate and tropical waters.

Geographic range

Cosmopolitan distribution in all oceans, including the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Found from Alaska to Argentina in the Pacific, and from Norway to South Africa in the Atlantic, as well as throughout the Indian Ocean.
