• Minimum tank size: 50 gallons (190 liters) for a single specimen, larger for groups
• Compatibility: Generally peaceful with fish too large to be considered prey. Avoid very small fish or aggressive tankmates. Good tankmates include larger tetras, peaceful cichlids (e.g., Kribensis), larger gouramis, and other peaceful bottom dwellers.
• Special requirements: A tightly secured lid is essential as they are expert escape artists. Provide plenty of hiding spots such as PVC pipes, driftwood, and dense vegetation. A soft substrate is preferred. They require access to the water surface to breathe atmospheric air.
