Geographic range

Western Atlantic Ocean, from Nova Scotia, Canada (rarely), south along the U.S. coast to Florida, throughout the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea, extending south to Brazil. Most common from Chesapeake Bay to Florida and the Gulf of Mexico.
