• Minimum tank size: 75 gallons (280 liters) for a pair, larger for groups or mixed species
• Compatibility: Can be kept with other robust, similarly sized cichlids or larger, peaceful to semi-aggressive fish. Avoid very small or overly aggressive tank mates. Best kept in species-specific tanks or with other Australoheros species if space allows.
• Special requirements: Require a well-structured aquarium with plenty of hiding places, caves, and driftwood. Substrate should be sand or fine gravel. Live plants can be included but should be robust and well-rooted, as these fish may dig. Good filtration and regular water changes are essential.
