• Diet: carnivore
• Minimum tank size: Due to its immense size, Arapaima gigas is not suitable for typical home aquariums. It requires public aquariums or very large, specialized facilities with tanks often exceeding 50,000 gallons (approximately 190,000 liters) and significant floor space.
• Compatibility: Generally kept alone or with other very large, robust fish that cannot be swallowed. Compatibility is extremely limited due to its predatory nature and size.
• Special requirements: Requires extremely large tanks, powerful filtration, excellent water quality, and a diet of large, meaty foods. Access to the surface for air breathing is essential. Not recommended for private aquarists.
