• Diet: carnivore
• Minimum tank size: 200 gallons (for adult specimens)
• Compatibility: Best kept in a species-specific tank or with very large, robust, and fast-moving fish that cannot be consumed. Avoid small fish or invertebrates.
• Special requirements: Requires a very secure lid as they are expert escape artists. A substrate of sand or fine gravel is preferred for burrowing. Provide ample hiding places such as PVC pipes, caves, and dense vegetation. Excellent filtration is essential due to their messy eating habits. Eels are sensitive to poor water quality.
