• Minimum tank size: 20 gallons for a single adult, with an additional 10 gallons per extra axolotl
• Compatibility: Best kept alone or with other axolotls of similar size. Avoid keeping with fish or other aquatic animals as they may nip at gills or be eaten.
• Special requirements: Requires a well-filtered tank with low flow, soft substrate (sand or bare bottom to prevent impaction), and plenty of hiding spots. Avoid bright lighting. Water quality is paramount; regular water changes are essential. They are sensitive to ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.
