Environment

Native to clear, slow-moving to moderately flowing rivers and streams, as well as floodplains and associated wetlands. They prefer areas with sandy or silty substrates, abundant hiding places among rocks, roots, and aquatic plants.

Geographic range

Historically found in the Mae Klong and Chao Phraya river basins in Thailand. Due to habitat degradation and overcollection, wild populations are severely depleted, and most specimens in the aquarium trade are now captive-bred.
